Let Not Your Heart Be Troubled
Dear MBC Church Family,
“Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid” (John 1:27). Though Jesus’ words were spoken to another audience for another time, His words are still true today and offer us much hope as our country seemingly descends into chaos. The coronavirus pandemic has highlighted the many disparities in our communities, especially in health care, education, and economics. But now we’re forced to confront disparities in other areas, too. Coupled with the needless death of persons of color by officers sworn to protect and defend them, the resulting anger, frustration and rage have overshadowed any personal concern for being infected by the virus. How all of this unfolds is uncertain. But what is certain is that God is the one who is still in control.
Jesus, in the same verse, says, “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you.” We are extremely blessed to be able to enjoy His peace without experiencing the struggles many others face on a daily basis. However, our Savior wants us to actively do more, to become His agents of peace to bring about reconciliation and healing in our communities. For this we prayed on our Day of Prayer and God has already prompted us to organize ways to bring peace to our communities. Let’s continue to open up our hearts to God’s leading and share with the church the insights He’s giving us into how we can individually and as a church be His agents of peace.
The Virtual Day of Prayer was very timely and prepared us for the crises we face now. Let’s continue to prayer for our nation and its leaders, our churches and families, and for each other. Anyone who feels the need for special prayer can come by the church at noon every day of the week for prayer, or join us remotely, or submit prayer requests and testimonies through the church’s website.
