Parable of the Fishing Net
Dear MBC Church Family,
One day Jesus recorded a series of parables which described many of the truths about the kingdom of God. One of the shorter, but just as profound, parables is the one about the fishing net being cast into the lake and catching all kinds of fish. Jesus then compared the fishermen, who separated the good fish from the bad, to angels who at the end of this age would similarly separate the wicked from the unrighteous. His parable could have very well been applied to the pandemic of our age where we see the dragnet being cast every day in our hospitals and the good are being caught up along with the bad.
From the ones who ridiculed others for believing the severity of the virus, to the frontline doctors risking their lives to save others from its effects, they all are being caught up in the same pandemic dragnet. From the ones, who even on their death bed believe the doctors are lying to them about their COVID diagnosis, to the many volunteers who are simply on the frontline of food distribution, they, too, are being caught up in the same dragnet.
We are still in the fall season, but the next season promises to be a “long dark winter” when the dragnet will be cast each day and it will only be by God’s grace that we escape. However, being caught is not inevitable. We can still do our part to be safe and protect others. And as vaccines become available, we don’t want to follow the example of the virus deniers and we ourselves deny the existence of a real vaccine. As the opportunity to take the vaccine is made available to us, take it. Then when the dragnet comes along, let it take someone else.
