Weathering the Storm

weathering the storm

Dear MBC Church Family,

A major theme of the incoming administration is unity. After years of our leaders intensifying the natural divisions within the nation for their selfish purposes, a subtle change in how we relate to each other is visibly blossoming and we pray that soon it will be in full bloom.  We, as a nation distrustful of one another, can only co-exist in a heightened state of hatred and animosity for so long.  But, now there is a deep hunger for unity and an equally deep repudiation of the tactics that cause bitter divisions.  Over the course of the summer we saw signs of what this nation could become when we saw the anguished defenders of Black Lives Matter welcome to their cause supporters from every racial and social strata of society.  We pray now that the forces of division will be overwhelmed by the power of love, forgiveness and understanding, and we pray that God will help us pave the way.

In retrospect, we will understand that the loss of life that many Americans suffered, dying at the hands of a relentless virus, will not have been in vain.  For a lot of credit will be given to the pandemic for ushering in this new period of unity.  It helped to reshape the political landscape that’s turning the dream of unity into reality.  And equally amazing is that, despite the fact that believers from every branch of Christianity called out to God during this divisive time and dared to give Him advice on how to heal the land, He is unifying His church under a single banner so this nation can experience the true power of the gospel of Jesus Christ, free from the confines of deeply held personal preferences. After months of weathering the storm of the pandemic, we see that this is God’s ultimate goal for His church, that the name of Christ be lifted high. God has a more glorious time of revival in store for us who remain. And we want to do our part in ushering in this new era of unity.  “How good and pleasant it is when brothers live together in unity” (Psalm 133:1)
