The Times of Rejoicing will be Lasting
Dear MBC Church Family,
In keeping with the promise of God in 2 Chronicles 7:14, in May we set aside a day to pray and we literally prayed all day. The pandemic was in full swing, and the economy was collapsing. We prayed for our families. We prayed for our churches. We prayed for our leaders, and for a healing of the nation from a relentless virus. A few weeks later as heart-wrenching events unfolded in our cities, the forces of racial injustice started to tear apart the very social fabric of this country. We then prayed again during an hour of power for a healing of the nation through the power of love. We can say today that God heard those prayers and He has begun the process of healing.
Proverbs 29:2 says, When good people run things, everyone is glad, but when the ruler is bad, everyone groans (TMSG). Another translation puts it this way, When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn (NIV). Because of the pandemic an untold number of families have been mourning, and the pandemic is still out of control. The mourning continues, and as the country now goes through a period of transition and a couple more months of uncertainty, the need to pray continues as well. However, the promise of Proverbs 29:2 is that we will see better days ahead and the times of rejoicing will be lasting. In fact, they have already begun.
