Road of Repentance
Dear MBC Church Family,
Never admitting to making a mistake is one philosophy that some people believe in. In their view, acknowledging their own mistakes is a sign of weakness that leads to a lack of confidence in them by their friends and followers. Instead of ever showing weakness, they strive to always show strength, believing that’s the only path to victory even though that path may be patched with lies (a.k.a. conspiracy theories) that try to pave over their weaknesses. The consequence for others traveling down that road with a person like that, however, leads them to a state of denial and pits them against an unsurpassable roadblock of truth. Yet they persist because, as the Bible categorizes them, they are like those who have no “love of the truth” and take pleasure in being deluded (2 Thessalonians 2:11).
This philosophy, though, is just the opposite of what Jesus teaches us. His words reveal that at the heart of repentance is the admission that for all of our lives up until accepting Him as Savior, we’ve lived a life of failure in meeting all that God requires of us. The consequence of continuing down that path without Christ is that we’ll be eternally separated from God. Repentance, however, takes us down a different path where we acknowledge our weaknesses and the deceptions we play on ourselves, pretending that we are strong enough to make it without God, despite the many roadblocks we encounter along the way. But it turns out that it’s only by traveling this road of repentance, admitting when we’re wrong, can we ever truly live a victorious life. Jesus said that if we walk with Him down His lighted pathway, “You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free” (John 8:32).
Let’s pray for those who are blinded to truth, that they too will come to see the light of Christ and acknowledge the mistakes they’ve made in traveling the wrong path through life. Let’s also continue to invite our family and friends to join us remotely for service by Skype: https://join.skype.com/P8TRBZjej8aU or by conference call: (339) 209-5068.
