The Patience of Job
Dear MBC Church Family,
The patience of Job. That’s an expression that describes Job’s response to sudden and unexpected losses that bombarded his life. Within a short period of time he had suffered the overwhelming loss of health, wealth, family and friends. Though he did not fully understand why God was allowing all this to happen to him, he still remained faithful to God. Job is not alone in experiencing suffering. Today, it’s almost incomprehensible the loss that some individuals are enduring, having to contend with unprecedented fires and devastating storms on top of bearing the impact of the pandemic on health and income. They may legitimately wonder how they can make it through another day. But by the grace of God they do.
Our experiences may not appear to be as dire as Job’s. But our faith may be equally tested by concerns about our own health and jobs and the wellbeing of our own family members and friends. And we may have the same thoughts about how we can make it through another day, too. However, having the patience of Job works best when we have the same assurance he had that God is with us and that a beautiful blessing awaits us once the trial has past. To paraphrase, “The righteous may have many troubles, but the LORD delivers them from them all” (Psalm 34:19). Or, as The Message translates it, “God is there every time.” Here’s a chorus that we can sing during those trying times:
God Leads Us Along
Some through the waters, some through the flood,
Some through the fire, but all through the blood;
Some through great sorrow, but God gives a song,
In the night season and all the day long.
And by the grace of God, we’ll make it, too, singing His songs of praise. Let’s continue to invite our family and friends to join us remotely for service by Skype: https://join.skype.com/P8TRBZjej8aU or by conference call: (339) 209-5068.
