The Truth Came Too Late

Dear MBC Church Family,

“I think I made a mistake, I thought it was a hoax.  It was not.”  Those were the last words of a dying young man from Texas spoken to his nurse just before he slipped away.  He had attended a COVID-19 party to test the veracity of the claims about the severity of the virus.  He discovered the truth he was searching for, but it was too late.

During the Hour of Power prayer time on Thursday, we prayed that God’s people would take these claims seriously.  We highlighted many of the promises found in Psalm 91 that we can hold on to when our faith is being tested by the pandemic surrounding us.  Foreseeing the deadly impact of the recent surge in infections, we prayed that if God’s people living in our country’s hot spots could just make it onto the call they would experience the assurances of His protection and His wisdom to safely guide them through the raging firestorm.  A couple of members from First Baptist Church of Irmo, SC joined us on the call.  This is the church whose members, including the pastor, suffered from an outbreak of COVID-19.  We were able to pray for them and others that they could take back to their churches the certainty of God’s promises to protect them.

The statement of the dying man to his nurse about the virus reminds us of another situation that we cannot afford to take lightly.  If we’re living a life without Jesus Christ abiding within, none of us will want to stand before the Judgment Seat and admit, “I think I made a mistake, I thought it was a hoax.  It was not.”  No.  Now is the day of salvation.  Now is the time to accept the Lord Jesus Christ.  Only then can we have the assurances of His protection.

Upcoming: We will soon host a virtual town hall to address the topic of racial injustice and what the Christian response to it should be.  Stay tuned.  Please, remember in your prayers Gwen Elliot in the passing of her oldest daughter, Debbie.  Remember also Jane McKinley and the funeral services on Tuesday for her husband, Arthur who loved and brought much inspiration to our church.
